Why is my foot care so important?
Your feet are the foundation of your body. They support you when you stand, walk, jump and run. They also protect your spine, bones, and soft tissues from damaging stress as you move around. They are your body’s main shock absorber.
Your feet perform better when all their muscles, arches, and bones are in their ideal stable positions. The foot is constructed with three arches. When properly maintained, they give exceptional supportive strength. The 3 arches together form a supportive vault that distributes the weight of the entire body.
If one arch of the foot is compromised, the other arches must compensate and are subject to additional stress. Additional stress leads to further compromise, leading to even more stress. You can see the problematic cycle forming!
How do my feet affect other parts of my body?
It is true, your feet can cause imbalances throughout your entire body! To understand how, you must first understand basic biomechanics of structures. Principles of engineering have shown that with any physical entity, whether it is a bridge, a building, or the human body— Structure dictates function. The joints and muscles of the body function most efficiently when they are in physical balance. Abnormal movements at one joint can interfere with proper movements at other joints.

1. The arch in Mr. Skeleton’s left foot begins to fall. This causes flattening and rolling in of the foot (known as pronation).
2. The left leg also rotates inwardly because the foot bone is connected to the ankle and leg bones.
3. Excessive rotation of the bones of the leg will cause unnecessary stresses on the knee as well as twisting of the pelvis and spine.
4. If the pronation is more prevalent on one side, the pelvis can become unlevel and a functional scoliosis can form.
5. Tilting of the pelvis places stress on the soft tissue and increases tension in the muscles and connective tissues. Chronic muscle tension leads to chronic back problems.
Another common scenario involves the loss of “shock absorption” due to fallen arches.
- One of the arches falls and destroys the architectural vault formed by the three arches. This causes increased shock during the heel-strike phase of gait (walking).
- When the feet lose their shock absorption capabilities, there is a negative impact on the knees, hips, pelvis, and spine all the way up to your head. Some patients must have these abnormal forces reduced before they can achieve improved spinal function.

In which shoes can I wear Foot Levelers?
