What to Expect from Treatment
Health, disease, and building a house share one common point – they are all a process. Chiropractic care is similar to building a house. You would never go to the local home improvement store and randomly pick up 2×4s, nails, and a front door and expect to build a house. It requires a detailed plan and a particular order for everything to fit together and last. Building a house on a solid foundation is essential for a long-standing, sturdy home. The same is true for your body. Your body has to go through a healing process that requires a detailed plan with a particular order in order for your body to heal itself correctly and completely.
Phases of Care
Phase 1: Relief Care
Many patients consult with a Doctor of Chiropractic when they are experiencing pain or other physical symptoms. Our first objective is to relieve these symptoms and help you feel better. Each chiropractic case is different and unique and requires different plans for treatment. Some conditions require more frequent visits for longer periods, other conditions respond quickly and require less visits. Your individual treatment plan will be evaluated and set in place for what is best for you, not a national standard.
Phase 2: Corrective or Restorative Care
During the corrective care phase, muscles and other tissues are allowed to heal more completely, thereby helping prevent injury and stabilize your spine and nervous system. This is an important phase of care and does require time. Just as straightening teeth takes time, straightening and stabilizing your spine is no different. Research shows that is takes nine to twelve months for tissues to regain their clinical strength without further injury. This phase of care is for those patients who wish to stay on top of problems and prevent them from coming back.
Phase 3: Wellness Care
Periodic adjustments are very important in maintaining a stable spine as well as enhancing the overall function of the nervous system and its associated systems (immune, digestive, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, etc). These adjustments are quick and pleasant and typically range from one to four times a month depending on your body’s needs, your lifestyle demands, and your goals. This phase of treatment is for those who wish to live their life at their greatest capacity!
This is a difficult concept in the beginning, but the majority of our practice members OPT for wellness care because they can just feel the difference chiropractic makes. This is a choice – not a requirement. Again, no one forces you to get regular teeth cleanings – this is your choice that you make based on accurate information on dental hygiene.
The subluxation process is slowed or stopped with long-term chiropractic care; this allows the body to optimize its ability to heal. Healing is the regeneration of the damaged cells and tissues of the body that accompanies the removal of nerve interference, and the reintegration of the body, mind and spirit.
When your pain and symptoms are gone, and when your immune system is functioning at 100% capacity, the quality of your life will be substantially better. As your health improves and your body begins the process of healing itself and functioning optimally, most patients lose their dependence on medication and see that they no longer get “sick” as they have in the past. A longer, healthier life is often the result of long-term chiropractic care.
