Autism

Autism is a disorder in which children have an inability to develop relationships with people, delayed speech acquisition, non-communicative use of speech, repetitive mannerisms, and marked distress during changes of normal conditions that they are accustomed to. Generally, autistic people have a normal physical appearance.

Autism is considered a spectrum disorder because symptoms and severity vary from case to case. Autism Spectrum Disorders currently encompass the following:

  • Autistic Disorder: (AKA “classic autism”); Affects a person’s ability to communicate, form relationships with others, and respond appropriately to the environment. Some people with autistic disorder are high functioning, and have the ability to speak and interact with others, while others are more severely affected and nonverbal and/or mentally retarded.
  • Asperger Syndrome: This disorder differs from autistic disorder, in that individuals with Asperger Syndrome do not have a delay in spoken language development. However, they can have serious deficits in social and communication skills. People with Asperger Syndrome often have obsessive, repetitive routines and preoccupations with a particular subject matter.
  • Childhood Disintegrative Disorder (CDD): Also known as “regressive autism”, children typically develop normally for 2 to 4 years before developing this autistic-like disorder. Typically language, interest in the social environment, and often toileting and self-care abilities are lost, and there may be a general loss of interest in the environment.
  • Rett Syndrome: Rett Syndrome is a complex genetic neurological disorder that mainly affects girls. Individuals with Rett Syndrome develop normally until 6 to 18 months of age followed by a developmental regression. This regression is followed by a deceleration of head growth, loss of purposeful hand movements and followed by the appearance of midline, stereotypic hand movements.
  • Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDDNOS): Also known as “atypical autism”, PDD/NOS is a diagnosis often considered for children who show some symptoms of autistic disorder, but who do not meet the specific diagnostic criteria for the other Pervasive Developmental Disorders.

When they were first discovered in 1943, Autism and Asperger Syndrome were extremely rare, occurring in only 1 of every 2,325 children born. Now, 1 in every 150 children in the US are born with some kind of brain developmental disorder. A 600% increase! So why the dramatic increase?

The Vaccine Link

Several independent researchers began to investigate the relationship between the explosion of autism and the major changes to the vaccine schedule (the number and frequency of shots set as standardized guidelines). Two interesting points were found:

  1. The overall number of vaccines administered sky-rocketed
  2. The MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) was added

In their investigations, they also found that a toxic substance called thimerosal had been used as a preservative in most vaccines since the 1930′s. Thimerosal is made up of approximately 50% ethylmercury – an organic form of the toxic chemical mercury. Why should you care? For decades, babies and small children were receiving a whopping dose of this lethal substance with every injection. This explains the connection between vaccinations, thimerosal, and the neurological deficits associated with autism spectrum disorders.

Today children get 12 such injections before their first birthday, and many of those contain ethylmercury.

  • Studies tell us that by the time they are 6 months old, most children are getting 111.3 ug of mercury from vaccines. That’s 36 times the safe limit set by the Environmental Protection Association (EPA).
  • By their first birthday, most children will have gotten an unbelievable 48 times that limit.

Up until age 2, the brain is undergoing its most rapid period of growth and development. It amazes me that so-called “experts” would expose children to a substance known to be so destructive and harmful to the nervous system and brain’s development.

If that wasn’t bad enough, higher total doses of mercury were added each time a new vaccine was put on the schedule. After 1980, some five new vaccines were included, each requiring multiple injections.

OWC Testing and Care of Autism

Research is showing autism spectrum disorder patients have neurological deficits. Although much is yet to be understood about autism, the possible link to neurological deficits indicates that chiropractic may hold an answer. Doctors of chiropractic specialize in locating interference in the nervous system.

The OWC will complete a thorough consultation and examination of your child. We assess their physical and neurological status, their lifestyle, diet, and stressors. We always do a complete a nervous system evaluation utilizing the Insight Subluxation Station. This will locate areas of interference and stress in your child’s nervous system. We often find nervous system interference in the first bone of the neck, the atlas, in children with autism spectrum disorders.

If necessary, we will order laboratory testing to determine if there is a chemical imbalance in the brain, mercury or heavy metal toxicity, food allergies or intestinal issues contributing to your child’s health status. These tests are non-invasive and painless. They are typically covered by your insurance company and are extremely affordable.

Once we have had a chance to evaluate and interpret all of the results, we will sit down with you and your family and go over everything we discovered, explain to you what it all means, present a customized treatment for your child including in-office procedures and important at-home care, and the costs associated with treatment. All with safe, natural solutions with a high success rate. We will always work with your current physician or specialist to monitor medications and never encourage parents or patients to discontinue use of medication without working with their physician. For more information on what we do, please contact us!

Chiropractic Treatment and Research

Research is finding links between the spinal column, the nervous system and the respiratory system. This is why so many people have mentioned improved breathing by consulting our office.

The nervous system is involved in every aspect of living and when this vital system is compromised, a variety of problems can manifest, including difficulty communicating and expressing, and slowed developmental growth. Chiropractic understands that the body can heal itself given the right environment. Chiropractic looks for environmental and lifestyle stressors, and disturbances in your child’s nervous system. Removing stressors and correcting subluxations through chiropractic adjustments enhance the function of the nervous system and allow your child’s innate intelligence to heal itself.
